Hear from our satisfied customers who trust A1 Airport Cars for reliable, comfortable, and on-time airport transfers. We pride ourselves on delivering a smooth travel experience from pickup to drop-off.
Manchester Airport changed its map in March 2026. Terminal 1 closed, leaving two terminals: Terminal 2 now handles all airlines except Ryanair, and Terminal 3 handles Ryanair. Old guides still describe three terminals, and following one to the wrong building costs you time. Our Manchester airport transfers work from the current layout: tell us the airline, we confirm the terminal, your fare is fixed at booking. Get an instant quote online or call +44 1582 297190.
7 airports · 4 vehicle types · 24/7 support · 45-min free waiting after landing
The rule is simple now. Flying Ryanair? Terminal 3. Flying anything else, from easyJet to Emirates to British Airways? Terminal 2. The two terminals sit close together on the airport's south side, but their forecourts, car parks and arrivals halls are separate, so the distinction still matters for your driver.
For departures we drop you at the correct terminal's forecourt. For arrivals your driver parks and meets you inside the arrivals hall of the right terminal, because Manchester charges drivers who attempt pickups in the drop-off zone. Your confirmation names the terminal, and the driver confirms it with you before travel day. Meet and greet with a name board can be arranged: ask when booking.
Manchester prices its forecourts in tight bands: £5.50 for up to 5 minutes, £6.50 for up to 10 minutes, and £25 for up to 30 minutes, with a 30-minute maximum stay. The system is barrierless: cameras record your plate and you pay online by midnight the next day. Attempting to collect an arriving passenger from the drop-off zone brings a £100 charge, which is why proper pickups use the car parks.
There is also a free option further out: the free drop-off area at JetParks 1 allows up to 60 minutes with a shuttle bus to the terminals. It suits drivers with time to spare. With an A1 booking none of this touches you: the driver pays the forecourt charge and it is already in your fixed fare. You walk out of arrivals, meet your driver, and leave.
From Luton and the Home Counties, Manchester Airport is a proper long-distance run: M1 north, then the M6 across to the M56 and into the airport. Allow about 3 to 3.5 hours depending on traffic, more on a Friday afternoon when the M6 earns its reputation. From Birmingham and the Midlands the route is shorter, up the M6 to the M56, typically 1.5 to 2 hours.
Long runs are where fixed fares matter most. A metered car on a three-hour motorway journey is a gamble; our fare is agreed before you book and does not move with traffic or roadworks. If your inbound flight is delayed, tell the office so the booking can be changed: delays of up to an hour are accommodated at the booked fare, and if the company has to cancel, the full amount is refunded to the same card. Drivers plan comfort stops on request, and for the return leg they watch the motorways while you are still in the air.
Manchester Airport has its own railway station, served by TransPennine Express and Northern trains to Manchester Piccadilly in about 15 to 20 minutes, with onward connections across the North. If your final destination is central Manchester and you travel light, the train is quick and cheap.
The car is the better choice when your journey does not end at Piccadilly. Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Stoke and the towns of Cheshire and Lancashire all sit within our pickup area, and reaching them by train means changes, waits and a second taxi at the far end. For groups, the maths is simple: one 8-seater with a fixed fare against six or eight rail fares plus onward transport. For late arrivals after the last useful train, the car is the only direct option.

Distance changes the vehicle question. Two to four people take the saloon (4 passengers, 2 large cases, 2 cabin bags): best for couples and solo travellers with standard luggage. Or step up to First Class (Mercedes E-Class or BMW 5 Series or similar) for a quieter three-hour ride: best for business travel and special occasions. Families take the people carrier (6+3+2): best for families with children and extra luggage. Groups of six to eight, football away days, wedding parties, take the 8-seater (8+8+8) and stay together in one vehicle instead of coordinating two cars: best for groups of 6-8, sports teams and wedding parties. The fleet page lists every vehicle and its luggage capacity.
The honest answer: it depends on your pickup point and your vehicle, so we quote instead of publishing one number. One price is agreed at booking, whatever the motorways do. It already includes the Manchester forecourt charge on departures and 45 minutes of free waiting after landing on airport pickups (£10 per 30 minutes after that).
Give us your flight number and the pickup is planned around the real arrival time. If your flight is delayed, tell the office so the booking can be changed: delays of up to an hour are accommodated at the booked fare, and if the company has to cancel, the full amount is refunded to the same card. Baby seats are free when requested at booking, though availability cannot be guaranteed; add the children's ages when you book. Cancellation is free more than 12 hours before pickup, although a bank fee applies (minimum £5). 50% of the fare is charged for cancellations 12 to 6 hours before pickup, 100% under 6 hours. Cancel only by phone or by replying to your reservation confirmation email, and refunds return to the original card within 3 to 5 working days.
Manchester is a football city, and on match days the M56, the M60 and the roads around the airport behave differently. A Saturday 3pm kickoff at Old Trafford or the Etihad fills the motorways from midday; an evening match does the same to the return leg. If your flight lands on a match day, your driver plans around it: earlier positioning, alternative routes off the M56, and no reliance on the usual Saturday timing.
Tell us it is a match day when you book. We follow the fixtures for exactly this reason, and we would rather build in thirty minutes you do not need than watch you miss check-in. The same applies to concert nights at the Co-op Live arena and the cricket season at Old Trafford: big crowds, slow roads, planned margins.
