No UK airport forecourt moves faster than London City's. Since 6 January 2026 the airport charges £8 for the first five minutes at the terminal, then £1 per minute after that, with a ten-minute maximum stay: the shortest window and the highest per-minute rate in the country. That tells you everything about this airport. London City is small, quick and built for people whose time is expensive. Our London City airport transfers work the same way: pre-booked, fixed fare, pickup planned around your flight, no waiting around. Get an instant quote or call +44 1582 297190.

The numbers matter because they shape how your driver works. £8 buys five minutes at the London City forecourt. A sixth minute costs another pound. Ten minutes is the absolute limit. There is no Blue Badge-free ride and no long-stay loophole of the kind the big airports offer; the DLR is the airport's idea of a free alternative.
With an A1 booking this is the driver's problem, not yours. The £8 charge is inside your fixed fare on departures. On arrivals your driver does not hover at the forecourt at all: pre-booked pickups use the car parks, and the driver walks to the terminal to meet you. London City's single small terminal means the walk from the arrivals door to the car is minutes, not the trek you face at Heathrow or Gatwick.
London City has the best rail connection of any airport on this page. The DLR station sits beside the terminal with direct trains to Bank, Poplar and Canning Town. The Elizabeth Line serves Custom House nearby, putting the City, Canary Wharf and Heathrow itself within easy reach. For a solo business traveller with a cabin bag heading to the Square Mile, the DLR is genuinely hard to beat.
The car wins on the edges. London City enforces a strict night curfew, so the first and last flights of the day sit outside comfortable train hours. If you are travelling with equipment, samples or more luggage than a cabin bag, the DLR's steps and changes lose their charm. And if your journey starts in Luton, St Albans or Harpenden rather than central London, the train means a trip into town first and then back out east: a pre-booked car takes the direct road instead, M1 to the North Circular and across, in about an hour to an hour and a half depending on traffic.

London City exists for one market: business travel to London's financial districts. The runway is short, the approach is steep, the aircraft are small, and check-in to gate can take twenty minutes on a good day. That speed is the airport's selling point, and your transfer should match it. Our drivers know the Docklands road layout, the Silvertown Tunnel and the Blackwall Tunnel approaches, and which is moving before you land. For Canary Wharf pickups the drive to the terminal is often under 30 minutes outside peak hours; from the City, similar.
Vehicle choice at London City skews executive. The typical booking is one or two people with cabin bags heading to a meeting, and the First Class car (Mercedes E-Class or BMW 5 Series or similar, 4 passengers, 2 large cases, 2 cabin bags) is the natural fit: best for business travel and special occasions, quiet cabin, space to take a call. Two colleagues with full luggage still fit the First Class car comfortably; larger groups or equipment-heavy trips take the people carrier (6+3+2, best for families with children and extra luggage) or the 8-seater (best for groups of 6-8, sports teams and wedding parties). Couples with cabin bags fit the saloon: best for couples and solo travellers with standard luggage. The fleet page shows every vehicle with its capacities.
The honest answer: it depends on your pickup point and your vehicle, so we quote instead of publishing one number. The fare is agreed at booking and does not move. It already includes the £8 London City forecourt charge on departures and 45 minutes of free waiting after landing on airport pickups (£10 per 30 minutes after that).
Give us your flight number and the pickup is planned around the real arrival time. If your flight is delayed, tell the office so the booking can be changed: delays of up to an hour are accommodated at the booked fare, and if the company has to cancel, the full amount is refunded to the same card. Baby seats are free when requested at booking, though availability cannot be guaranteed; add the children's ages when you book. Cancellation is free more than 12 hours before pickup, although a bank fee applies (minimum £5). 50% of the fare is charged for cancellations 12 to 6 hours before pickup, 100% under 6 hours. Cancel only by phone or by replying to your reservation confirmation email, and refunds return to the original card within 3 to 5 working days.
Reaching London City by road means crossing the Thames, and the crossing you choose decides the journey. The Blackwall Tunnel is the classic route from the west and north, the Silvertown Tunnel now offers a second crossing nearby, and the Woolwich Ferry and Dartford Crossing serve approaches from the east and south. Each has its own traffic personality: Blackwall clogs at peak hours, the tunnels carry tolls that your driver handles, and the ferry stops running late at night.
This is local knowledge that matters. Your driver checks which crossing is moving before setting off for your pickup, and again before leaving the airport with you. A driver who takes Blackwall at 8:30am out of habit will sit in it; ours will already be committed to the alternative. It is a small thing, and at this airport, where the whole point is speed, small things are the product.
