Hear from our satisfied customers who trust A1 Airport Cars for reliable, comfortable, and on-time airport transfers. We pride ourselves on delivering a smooth travel experience from pickup to drop-off.
Birmingham is the one airport on our list where the drop-off can cost you nothing. Its Drop Off car park is free for the first ten minutes, a short covered walk from the single terminal. The alternative, Premium Set Down right outside the doors, costs £8 for 15 minutes and climbs steeply after that. Knowing which one your driver uses, and why, is part of booking a proper Birmingham airport transfer. Ours are fixed fare, confirmed at booking, with pickups planned around your flight. 7 airports · 4 vehicle types · 24/7 support · 45-min free waiting after landing
Birmingham Airport gives drivers two choices, and they suit different trips. Premium Set Down sits directly outside the terminal: £8 for up to 15 minutes, then £13, £19 and £25 as the stay stretches toward 30 minutes. It is the right choice for passengers who need the shortest walk: older travellers, anyone with limited mobility, or a tight departure.
The Drop Off car park is about 400 metres from the terminal, reached by a covered walkway or a free shuttle bus. The first ten minutes are free; after that it costs £7 for up to 15 minutes, rising on a published tariff. For a standard drop-off with able-bodied passengers and normal luggage, ten free minutes is plenty.
With an A1 booking, the driver chooses based on your needs and the fare already covers whichever charge applies. Tell us at booking if anyone in the party needs the closest possible drop, and we will use Premium Set Down. For arrivals, pre-booked drivers collect from the car parks rather than either drop-off area, and meet you inside the single terminal. Meet and greet with a name board can be arranged: ask when booking.
From Luton and the Home Counties, Birmingham Airport is a north-west run: M1 north, then the M42 toward the airport, with the A45 as the final approach. Allow about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic; the M1/M42 interchange is the usual slow point. From London the route is the M40 and M42, similar timing. The airport sits beside the NEC and Birmingham International station, well signed from every direction.
This is a comfortable long-distance transfer distance: far enough that a metered fare would be a gamble, close enough for a direct run with no stops needed. The fare is fixed at booking and does not move with traffic. For the return leg, give us the flight number and the pickup is planned around the real landing time. If your flight is delayed, tell the office so the booking can be changed: delays of up to an hour are accommodated at the booked fare, and if the company has to cancel, the full amount is refunded to the same card.
Birmingham has the tidiest airport-to-rail connection in the Midlands. The free Air-Rail Link runs from the terminal's first floor to Birmingham International station, operating from 03:30 to 00:30 daily. From there, trains reach Birmingham New Street in about 10 to 15 minutes, with onward services across the country.
The train suits passengers whose journey ends in central Birmingham and who travel light. It suits almost nobody else as well as a car does. Coventry, Leicester, Wolverhampton, Solihull and the towns of Warwickshire are all quicker door to door by road. Groups compare one fixed car fare against multiple rail fares plus onward taxis. And for flights landing after the Air-Rail Link winds down, or departures before it starts, the pre-booked car is the only direct option.

Birmingham's traffic is a mix of business travel to the NEC and family holidays. One to four people with standard luggage fit the saloon (4 passengers, 2 large cases, 2 cabin bags): best for couples and solo travellers with standard luggage. NEC exhibitors with equipment and samples often need the people carrier (6+3+2) for the extra boot space: best for families with children and extra luggage. Groups of six to eight take the 8-seater (8+8+8): best for groups of 6-8, sports teams and wedding parties. Business travellers usually ask for First Class: Mercedes E-Class or BMW 5 Series or similar, quiet cabin for the M1: best for business travel and special occasions. Every vehicle is detailed in the fleet, with passenger and luggage figures for each.
The honest answer: it depends on your pickup point and your vehicle, so we quote instead of publishing one number. The price agreed at booking is the price you pay. It already includes whichever Birmingham drop-off charge applies on departures and 45 minutes of free waiting after landing on airport pickups (£10 per 30 minutes after that).
Give us your flight number and the pickup is planned around the real arrival time. If your flight is delayed, tell the office so the booking can be changed: delays of up to an hour are accommodated at the booked fare, and if the company has to cancel, the full amount is refunded to the same card. Baby seats are free when requested at booking, though availability cannot be guaranteed; add the children's ages when you book. Cancellation is free more than 12 hours before pickup, although a bank fee applies (minimum £5). 50% of the fare is charged for cancellations 12 to 6 hours before pickup, 100% under 6 hours. Cancel only by phone or by replying to your reservation confirmation email, and refunds return to the original card within 3 to 5 working days.
Birmingham Airport shares its neighbourhood with the NEC, the exhibition centre a few minutes away. When a big show is on, the roads around the airport, the M42 junction and the A45 fill with exhibitor vans and visitor traffic, and the airport's own car parks fill with event parking. If your flight coincides with a major exhibition, allow extra time: tell us when you book and we will check what is on and set the pickup accordingly.
Exhibitors are some of our most regular Birmingham customers. The pattern is familiar: two colleagues, a people carrier full of samples, display kit and toolboxes, a stand to build the next morning. The people carrier's boot swallows what a saloon cannot, and the fixed fare means the finance department gets one clean invoice line. If you are moving exhibition freight rather than luggage, describe it at booking so we send the right vehicle first time.
